Nevertheless, I have been taking classes at the University part time for the past two years and have become reasonably familiar with the atmosphere and academic quality. The bad:UTC is a commuter school, first of all, so don't expect an extraordinary amount of diversity. The academics are mediocre in the math, physics, and foreign language departments (the only departments in which I have taken classes - I don't know about the others). Mostly the students are taught the "plug-and-chug" methods to math and physics. The one professor of German at the entire university is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E. He babies his students. In fact, babying is common in every class I have taken. "Okay class, pencils down. Put everything under your desks."Often I feel like I'm at high school all over again. If you look at the course schedule for any given semester, you can see that about half of the math classes are remedial high school courses. The good:Professors and students are nice people. Summary:Only attend this school if you must, especially if you're looking for any sort of academic experience or even just something above high school level coursework. |
