On the plus side it is cheap, there by allowing you to save for grad/med/law school. On the negative the surronding Area sucks, and the frat partys and such get boring. I think that the most important thing that a prospective student needs to know is this is a STATE School. It is good, but by no means a UVA, Berkley or equivalent. Despite what is said this is not an "public alternative to the Ivy-league". First of all it is not even ranked in the top 20 public schools, which would automaticly eliminate it from that level. And the general student population lacks the intellecutual rigor and curiosity of the Ivy-league. For although there are several individual students who are highly intellecutal and Harvard caliber, on Avg NO.The Avg BU student just trys to get by with avg grades and then go to the RAT or sports bar on the weekend, and really doesnt care. And interms of respectability although this school does have a higher than avg acceptance rate at Law schools or med schools, it is not a major feeder for the top schools. And most problematic is its lack of national recognition, although ok in NY , go outside of the tri-state area and people will think you go to a school in Alabama, or Bingham-young. So be forewarned if you want an Ivy or prestige school experience at a fraction of the cost this is not the place, dont fall for the hype, "Binghamton University", is very much a state school. |
