One thing Johnson and Wales does effectively is sell itself like a product. My senior year of high school I had a recruiter come to my school and he raved about the school's 98% post college employment and the real life skills you learn. I went there expecting that. What I got was completely different. The professors for the most part are incompetent & unwilling to be there themselves. The campus itself is spread over the city of Providence, with the exception of the freshman dorms which are downtown. My criminal justice classes were a joke, if you go to ratemyprofessor.com you can read all the negative reviews on them. The university focuses only on the culinary and hospitality schools. Most of the guest speakers and employers that come to our school are hotel management recruiters. I lost 10 lbs. freshman year because I hated the food so much. If you have a night class you are petrified walking past the homeless and crime alerts are always posted about someone getting robbed. The gym: half the machines dont work and the mats are digusting. You have to pay 100 dollars to have your car at the harborside campus, and you have to take a bus from downtown to get to it. The only thing I found here were good friends. Oh and be prepared to explain to people that your not a cook when you say you go here. The adminstration here is crap. No one in financial, student academic, security, or career services is helpful. I left after I got my associates and transferred. The school markets itself to be a world class place of education when in reality its the polar opposite.
