Appalachian State is nestled in the beautiful Southern Appalachian mountains. Boone, NC is more than a small town and offers pleasing culture. What the area may lack in nightlife it more than makes up for (my opinion) in beauty and outdoor activities. Minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and other great outdoor activities. Science professors (I was a Bio major) are accessible and knowledgeable, though the institution is not a large research institution.
