If you change your major it is probably a good idea to change to a school with a strong program in that major. I originally went to Ball State to get a degree in Architecture but found that the people in the program were snooty. I switched to Graphic Design/Visual Communications and didn't do my homework. The Graphic Design program is seriously lacking. In the real world people want students that can do web design and print design. At Ball State the focus is on print design and there are few programs in the major that are helpful. The program is too relaxed and the teachers are too far behind the times. You need to be current and have knowledge of InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML, and the list goes on. Having knowledge of the printing process is also very good. Graphic Design professionals are very competitive. You'll need to do your research and make personal contacts through organizations like AIGA and AdFed to get a job once you graduate. |
