I originally went to a big research university in New York, but I came back to Montana and was shocked by how good my classes were. The social life is great- there's always a party you can go to, and students are easy to meet. The liberal arts departments can be competitive, but it is a liberal arts school. Missoula is an amazing city, crisscrossed by bridges and rivers. There are a bunch of locally owned downtown shops, live music is common, and campus/community activism is off the charts compared to most places. The economy in Montana is good, and there are a bunch of job postings around campus. If you are an in state resident, this university is a steal. It's beginning to be discovered by out of state residents, who are attending the university in droves. Right now it's about 15% out of state, and that number is rapidly increasing. I've heard a lot of in state people complain about financial aid in their junior and senior years, but you get what you pay for. UM had to raise tuition to become a competitive university, and now it's one of the best out there. Check it out for yourself. |
