I found Cal to be quite a tough school, but not more so than expected. If you are a California resident, surely you will expect Berkeley to be academically rigorous. However, when I really put the work in, I always got good results. As in doing all of the required reading, suggested and required homework, attending all lectures and taking good notes to study off of, making study buddies in classes—these things will get you the top grades, no matter what your major is.

If you really want to do something tough like go to medical school afterwards, try checking out a private school. There you will probably find a more nurturing environment and more conducive to getting high grades.
