I absolutely hated Mount Holyoke when I first came. As a freshman, I went through something like culture shock, for I wasn't expecting the student body to be a bunch of feminist lesbians who were against anyone who wasn't a lesbian, or who actually wanted to have a good time and party (as one would often want to do) in college. My close friend and I constantly got looks from other girls who seemingly disapproved of our attempts to party at other schools on week nights,. Everyone here is VERY into their work. Because my friend and I actually cared what we looked lke, and didn't "forget" to shower for a week at a time, I felt really out of place, because others apparently don't really care about their appearance or hygeine that much. I found the student body friendly at first, but not my type at all. Once students decided that I was not like them, they became cold, unfriendly, and rude. This was the experience me and my group of friends at MHC have had. Others, however, absolutely love it. it depends what kind of person you are when you come here. If you are looking for a strong social life that doesn't involve staying on campus and getting drunk with immature, girls in a dorm room, don't come here. Because that is what you find. Yes, UMass an Amherst are right around the corner, but girls from Amherst College HATE Mount Holyoke girls, because they think we are "stealing" their guys, and the bus system PVTA is not as easy and convenient as you are led to believe. It is HORRIBLE here without a car, because there's no where to go, and hence nothing to do. If you come here, try your hardest to have a car, even if its a piece of junk, because without transportation here, its VERY easy to feel isolated.
