Statistical Analyzer:

As with many at UH, I had originally planned on attending UT-Austin. Once again, as with many, my grades were not stellar enough to get me in. UH was surprising for me, how enjoyable my time has been here. I joined the Honors college, and I do not regret it at all. Much smaller classes, more individualized, but correspondingly harder. The only class so far that to me had too much pointless busy work was college algebra. We have attendance grades, and homework due almost every day. But, that is balanced out by the fact that we can schedule our own tests around our schedule. The way each class is taught is based on how the instructor wants it to be taught. This is a good thing (religion classes, history classes, honors classes) or a bad thing (world civilization to 1450). I am currently living in the Quadrangle, which I really enjoy. Well, enjoy as much as one can enjoy living in a dorm. The rooms are quite large and well maintained. Plus, the food hall in the Quad has a huge tv, and better food. Just get there before 8, because after then the only food out is pizza and hamburgers.

One of my favorite parts about campus is the fact that many people who attend are not fresh out of high school kids. There are many people who are going back for a second degree, or in their 20's or 30's getting their first degree. Older people come in for classes in their spare time, and guest lecturers come in constantly.

There are bad points to the university, namely its location. To live off campus you have to live 5+ minutes away, because you do not want to live in 3rd ward. There are constant sirens, and occasionally a car is stolen or broken into in the economy lots. A friends car was stolen and stripped of its aftermarket parts, and someone dumped a smashed up car in the lot last semester, and it is still there. Also, there are constantly cars and golf carts moving along campus and driving on grass, ripping it up. Its not fun to dodge them all the time. I also had a delivery truck almost back into me one day.

Overall, I do recommend UH. It is a well respected school outside of Houston, with great staff and great oppourtunities for anyone who attends and takes school seriously.
