I simply will speak from my own experience, since I know not everyone has had, or shares, the same outlook.

I came to OWU because of financial reasons, living on campus because that's what the masses insisted made the "college experience" worthwhile. As a former high school valedictorian, varsity athlete in a few sports, theatrical performer, volunteer, and peer health group activist, I had optimistic expectations. It's hence been…..at least 6 months, and I still have yet a true friend on campus whom I've managed to become real close with. I don't smoke, I don't drink, I'm not a heavy party-goer, and I don't care for greek life. I read quite a bit, am working a business on the side, which has unfortunately indirectly made me an outcast in the eyes of my peers. I can't find a group of people to work with that shares an interest in promoting financial literacy; I can't start a club, since few students even care to think about it. I try to discuss self-improvement books and techniques with peers, only for them to have it go in one ear and out the other. I've had trouble connecting with groups already on cmapus: our health group consists of less than a handful of people, our phonanthan group was character-building, until they asked me to leave for my "incompetence" (inability to squeeze money out of parents and alumni).

Don't get me wrong, academically, this place is challenging; the professors are mostly tough, but will push you and help you in any way they can. I love the philosophical group on campus, put together by two of our professors for students who simply like to analyse life and discuss it with one another (needless to say, this is also poorly attended, unfortunately). Campus life, from my experience, has sucked. Never have I felt so isolated and cut off from the world. While my personal problems delve deeper than that, I do not think they are appropriate to share on this website.

For those who have had worthwhile experiences, great; is this a good university? for SOME people……but not for everyone.
