The College of Lake County has been rated as one of the best community colleges in the NATION. There are many who will tell you that CLC merely stands for "College of Last Chance," but this is definitely not the case. You will find many bright students at this college who are making a smart choice by attending for two years while saving money to transfer to a four-year institution. Going on to a four-year college to complete your degree is not difficult, as many of the college's courses transfer with ease. I will be transferring to Carthage College or Loyola University Chicago this summer/fall, and I have found that ALL of my courses taken at CLC will transfer! The staff and faculty members are very helpful and stick to their office hours; you will not be blown off. I have even had lunch with some of my instructors and we have discussed assignments and subjects relevant to the course. The professors here are truly invested in students' educational success and achievements. The campus is beautiful, campus safety is very efficient and are always on watch, and there are many clubs and organizations to choose from. As for the price-it doesn't get any better! Why not attend a community college (especially if you are undecided on your major), graduate with minimal (if any) debt, transfer out, and end up with basically just two years of debt rather than four for your bachelor degree? Small class sizes here ensure your success, as instructors more easily remember who you are and what you need help in. And they actually help you! The coursework can range from ridiculously easy to extremely difficult, but my experience has been that it is average or moderately difficult; it is comparable to a four-year university's curriculum. It further emphasizes my point that it is economically better to attend a community college-you're getting about the same level courses. The counseling staff are okay, they may need some work, but if you pay attention to deadlines and the regulations for graduation requirements, you will do fine. Good luck in your college choice, and maybe CLC will be it!
