My experience at Wake was outstanding. The level of contact that students have with professors on the campus is almost unparallel for a national university. I was frequently invited over to my professor's homes, and many of them are the sorts of people who will stop everything and talk to you for an hour about school, current events or your personal goals when you visit them in their offices. I was looking for a job in DC, and one of my professors placed a call to one of his friends at a policy institute there and offered to fast track and earmark my application. The connections, if you take advantage of them, are excellent.

Wake frequently gets dubbed as a "conservative" top university, and I would like to take this opportunity to dispel that myth. In aggregate, Wake is a moderate school, although it has become more liberal since I have been there. I think it will continue in this direction as we just inaugurated a new president and the student body has been diversifying. I don't say this to scare off more conservative applicants. Whatever your political and social leanings, you will find people of differing opinions who will challenge you. But just for the record, the GSSA (Gay-Straight Student Alliance) and College Democrats each have a larger active membership than the College Republicans on campus. The Greek scene is dominant, but there are plenty of other active social circles if you look for them, such as the Theater House, Tech House, Huffman House, SEAC (environmental) house etc etc. The arts district downtown is really getting promoted as well, and we just recently had a huge student art auction for a local charity there. All in all, Wake is a great place to explore your education, and there really is something for everyone if you care to look.
