First, I majored in CIS not Computer Science, but that's not a menu choice. The CIS program at RWU is fantastic. I actually didn't realize how good it was until after I graduated. My first job was in NY working on a corporate web site. They couldn’t believe how much I could do right from the start. I learned later that my two predecessors had been fired a few months after they had started. I got promoted. When the dot-com bust came there were big layoffs, I got promoted again. The difference is due to the professors I had at RWU. RWU has professors that have come from the business world, they're not just academics, they know how it’s done. They don’t use text books. They teach from experience and show you how to learn from reference books. It's been six years since I graduated and I’ve had to replace most of my books several times but I still find my notes and class projects useful. If I had to get my BS again, and could go to any school in the world, I’d go back to RWU. As others have pointed out, the administration is a mess, the dorms are horrible and too many students get drunk. But no place is perfect and I didn’t go to college to live in a nice room. I went to college to get a great education so I could make a nice living doing something I love to do. That’s exactly what I got from RWU. My favorite professor used to sayDon’t tell the administration but I’d teach this class for nothing.I feel the same way about what I do. |
