I didn't know what I was getting into when I decided to go to Bucknell. I thought it was going to be this amazing place where I could grow personally and intellectually, but I felt stifled at Bucknell.

The lack of diversity really does affect your education. I went to a high school where over 40 different languages were spoken on campus, and the other students added to my education just as much as the classes did. My interactions with my peers inside and out of the classroom made me more tolerant and taught me to think about issues from many angles. At Bucknell, everyone is exactly the same- rich, upperclass, white, new englanders. It really doesn't make for stimulating conversations. I learned nothing from my peers, and it really is a shame.

Also, Bucknell is in the absolute middle of NOWHERE. It is 3 hours to the first actual city, and freshmen can't have a car, so you are pretty much stranded. I got really bored of the social scene on campus in about a month. It is the same thing every night. Drink in the basement of some gross frat where drunken awkward preppies rub against each other to the beat of overplayed rap songs, and get beer poured all over you. Seriously, a bit of advice for girls: don't bother wearing cute heels out- they will get ruined. After the first week I wore my shower sandals out. The parties are lame and a lot of them are really snobby about letting people in anyway. Thats why you have to join a frat or sorority if you go here. You will have no social life if you don't. Period.

Academically, it was fine. For the most part my professors were very helpful. There were a few classes where the final grade was based more on pop quizzes than on the actual exams, which was annoying, but every class was different in the way it was ran.

Bottome line: Bucknell is great if you want to go to a decent school out in the middle of nature with a pretty campus and party like you did in high school with people just like you. But if you want something different, a challenge, something interesting and stimulating that really changes who you are and how you think, you will definitely be let down. I am transferring this fall to a new school that hopefully will fit me better.
