While Babson's academic reputation seems to be on the rise, I can't help but wonder what the future holds for a school that, financially speaking, is not doing tremendously well. I've come across some very successful Babson grads in the world of finance, yet always encounter the same emotions, or lack thereof. Grads are very apathetic towards the school and would rather donate time and financial resources to their prep schools or grad schools. Speaking for myself, I believe this is directly related to the lack of a true sense of tradition and comradery that you find on other college campuses. While academics should be the centerpiece to any respectable college, there is so much more to the college experience! Babson has failed miserably at instilling the type of social vibrancy that alumni will remember when it comes time to write a check. The school's size obviously limits it from a higher caliber of athletics, however, there are other options that I believe would prove very fruitful. First and foremost, the school needs to establish some sort of fraternity and sorority row, not the present dorms converted for Greek use. Why this has not been done by now I cannot imagine. I suspect there may be some involvement by the town of Wellesley, but find it hard to believe Babson cannot make this happen. Second, good alumni relations begin while students are still in college!! Babson's campus police are incapable of letting students have a good time. Third, many alumni I have come into contact with speak to the lack of outreach by the school. Huge headway can be made via simple efforts such as calling alumni to inform them of news and events, scheduling dinners and luncheons with more frequency in cities like NYC and Boston, etc.
