University at Buffalo is the other SUNY school in Buffalo, they're a University Center reknowned for pre-med and engineering. Buffalo State College is located on Elmwood Ave. in the "museum district." The surrounding area is extremely hit and miss. You're right next to some of the nicest and trashiest parts of the city. One thing to understand is that Buffalo State is a HUGE commuter school. There are few residents, and those who are are typically from Syracuse or Long Island/NYC metro area. This makes the social life going down, but only for certain types of people. If you're typically outgoing and looking to have fun, you'll find people to hang out with.. but if you were the artsy kid in high school, or the weird kid…it's going to suck.I'd say the academics are so-so, some programs are said to be really good (namely, education and art.) However, if you're interested in these majors I reccomend SUNY Oneonta for education and SUNY New Paltz, Purchase, or Fredonia for art. The programs are just better. Buff State sort of feels like a junior college, in that most kids don't really want to be doing schoolwork, and the work, frankly, is not hard at all.So, if you're looking for an easy college experience, I reccomend it. If you're looking to get into a good grad school, go somewhere else. |
