A lot of people mentally picture the face of Jerry Falwell when they hear "Liberty University." There is a lot more to the school than Falwell, however, and although he started the school (for which I am grateful), it is not as though all students and faculty are brainwashed by his simplistic generalities. They sit in convo and decide when his arguments are biblical and when they are fallacious. The academic departments (or at least mine, English and History) contain down-to-earth, accessible professors with in-depth knowledge in their fields, passion for their subjects, and excellent classroom skills. In five semesters at LU, I have taken only two classes which I felt were not worth my time. All the rest were quite stimulating and beneficial. |
