All of the teachers in my major earned their degree from PCC then went straight into teaching at the college. I didn't have anyone who had actually earned a living doing what they were teaching. As a result, they didn't really know what was happening in the industry or what the trends were. Some of the required classes should not have been required. Why on earth should calligraphy be required for a journalism student? If they were really in touch with the industry, they'd also know that principles of drawing is an archaic class. I have yet to see a job posting for a writer/editor that requires them to illustrate their own work. Photography skills are more in demand than drawing skills. The program needs to be revamped. |
