I transfered to Potsdam after a bad first year experience at another school. I thought I would only attend Potsdam until I figure out where I wanted to go, but enjoyed myself so much that I decided to stay.

Location-

Potsdam is in a very isolated area of Upstate NY. If you are outdoorsy you'll love the opportunities to ice climb, hike, boat, and camp. There are tons of campus sponsered trips and activity opportunities. As a warning-the winter is long and cold!

Even though it is isolated regionally, socially there are four local colleges-Suny Potsdam, Suny Canton, St. Lawrence University, and Clarkson University. So there are plenty of people to meet and socialize with.

I do recommend you have a car-you'll want it to get around.

Food-

College food is actually pretty good!

Dorm Life-

Some dorms are older than others and therefore nicer than others. Students are pretty open minded and pleasant. I don't remember much trouble in any of the time I spent there.

Education-

My teachers were what made me fall in love with Potsdam. They were all very one on one. I got plenty of individualized attention. My small classes often meant that teachers were able to come up with creative projects and teaching methods.

Be prepared-students are pretty liberal minded.

In the end-

It's not for everyone, know what you are getting into before you go, but if it sounds like a fit-you'll really enjoy your time there.
