First of all, I feel the need to point out the startling simularity (and volume) of the positive comments posted over the past month. The perfectly polished grammar, the statements that might easily be on PCC promotional material, the sugary-sweet tone…does this make anyone else suspicious? Particularly in light of the e-mail sent to alumni asking for positive posts on this site? That being said, here is the summary of my experience:I was an education major. Upon graduation, I have found it impossible to find a full-time teaching position that pays enough to live on my own. I can't even think about teaching in a public school, as PCC is unaccredited and as I am too ill-prepared. I cannot get into the grad school of my choice because, again, PCC is unaccredited.Many people complain about the rules at PCC. Yes, they were a pain. No, they did not ruin my life or cause me to lose all faith in God. Mostly the rules just caused me to feel rather frightened at emerging in the "real world" after graduation. I found myself becoming rather haughty after four years there. Luckily I have grown out of this! I did feel very stressed at all times as a student, and rather paranoid, owing to the rules. I felt over-burdened.As for academics, the history program is lousy. The textbooks used in class are the same ones I had in high school. The material is extremely slanted. Many times I caught my history professors saying things that later research proved incorrect. One professor was so consumed with his condemnations of Communism that he neglected to teach anything else. The English classes were better, but still very limited in their scope. I did not receive a well-rounded education.The campus at PCC is friendly. As many other posters have stated, making life-long friends is easy there. However, shouldn't college be about a great deal more than just making good friends? The campus is beautiful. How does that contribute to my future? The food was pretty good. How will that help me get a job? The cost was undeniably low. I am reminded of the saying,you get what you pay for.If you want to be a wife and mother, PCC will prepare you. If you want to get a decent job in a competitive workforce (particularly up north), I don't recommend PCC.One more thought: If PCC is such a pinnacle of higher education, then why can't they let their successes speak for themselves? Why does the administration feel the need to closely censor what their students say about the college? Why did they send that e-mail asking us to post positive comments on sites such as this? Why the paranoia? |
