AIU was a nightmare for me! First I will say the learning enviorment was great, I loved most of the instructors and the classroom environment. I feel however that to my admissions councilor I was just a number. I graduated AIU and completed my AA in Business Admin with honors, afterwards my councilor urged me to continue my education towards my bachelors. I had been making a monthly student arrangement for the AA (which I was still paying on) and the BA program would increase the payment I could barely handle to begin with. I told my advisor that I think I should wait and pay off the rest off the AA before I begin any new programs. He told me the importance of continuing and told me to let him speak with financial aid. Upon calling me back he said that financial aid would be alright with me making partial payments (aiu students never listen to that!) and that it would take me longer to pay off but I could continue attending classes and there would be no late fees. So I agreed that I could deal with that and began the BA program. Part way through financial aid calls and says I am falling behind on payments, I explained what my advisor had informed me and they said that I may have had a "miscommunication". Well at that point I could not afford it to begin with and that had not changed, paying for things my children need come 1st! AIU froze me from classes, sent me a letter demanding the remaining 2,000 dollars I owe them or the will report to creditors. I feel betrayed by the counsilor (who when I asked to speak with "no longer works there") and taken advantage of. I would never recommend this school all I have to show are student loans now coming due and harassing phone calls on a daily basis for the money I can not pay yet (young family with 3 kids). I have started a new school and will work on getting my credits from AIU released but, I am going elsewhere and I hope none of you experience this horror story. |
