The best part of my UC education was the co-op program. Getting the real world experience was not only fun and profitable, but was better training than the Computer Science classes. I even postponed my senior year (with the University's agreement) to help my company complete a government contract job.

As a company founder and hiring manager, I look more at what a person has accomplished than what university they attended (or even if they got a degree). Those accomplishments could have been "real" jobs or personal projects they did on the side (e.g., contributing to open source sofware projects, building personal web sites). Some of the best programmers I know majored in Music.

On a personal level, I met great friends at UC and left with my first wife (and we're still married after 18 years).
