As a result I averaged 18 hours/semester and graduated in 3 years. This hurt my final GPA and made getting into a quality graduate program very difficult, if not impossible. UT's immense course catalog allowed me to meet basic requirements with topics that were truly interesting (which I credit with getting higher grades than I might have earned). For example, I took Astronomy to fill science requirements and Anthropology courses that were meant for graduate students as my humanities courses. Because a minimum class count is required to even make a course stick many professors allow undergrads in (with fewer required papers) and give undergrad credit just to fill the room. The two classes that are MUSTS in my opinion in the Ed Psych class that teaches you study skills. You are forced to apply the lessons to your current class load, which ensures discipline. I also recommend a PE course that forces you to stay in shape (or the dreaded freshman 15 or 50 will ruin your self-image). |
