Statistical Analyzer:

GMU is the type of school you go to if you care more about furthering your career than getting the full college experience. There are definitely many opportunities available for you due to the location of the campus, (near D.C.) as opposed to some other VA schools in small/middle-sized rural towns. I found the faculty and staff in the business department very helpful. The professors I had were able to actually apply what they were teaching. This was probably due to the fact that I took mostly night classes and they were able to relate the material to their day jobs (working for the Treasury, Freddie Mac, etc.).

That said, the social life at GMU is TERRIBLE. The few parties I went to were abysmal (yes, they were frat parties) and reflected the joke of what is known as Greek life at Mason. It's not hard to make friends at GMU-it's really just like high school. It is possible to have a decent social life at Mason but you have to try much, much harder than at other universities to do so.

However, if you really want the best of both worlds, academics and a REAL college experience, my advice to you would be to go to a university like Virginia Tech, JMU, UVA, or any other well received school that isn’t a commuter school. It might be much more expensive than commuting to Mason from your parent’s house but TRUST ME-it is worth it in the long run. I know this is why I had to transfer out of Mason as soon as I could (I do miss some of my old GMU professors though…).
