UCD takes some getting used to. It's pretty much a bubble and a suburban town like any other, only surrounded by nothing and without a shopping mall. Once you get used to this laid back college town environment, it can be a lot of fun…but only if you are proactive in seeking out activities and friends. Otherwise, you will have a lonely experience here.

I highly recommend living in the dorms - you have the best opportunity to meet people here! After your first year, you are on your own for housing and apartment life can be kind of lonely if you don't maintain an active social life.

The social scene revolves a lot around the greek system. Join a sorority or fraternity if you can! But beware that recruitment is tough and you won't get into one unless you are really outgoing and fun and you look good. Many sororities are very superficial.

Academics are ok. Classes are large, but get smaller as you progress. The only great professors I have had were those who were very student-oriented and did little research. Otherwise, most professors do research here.

Overall, Davis provides you with the "typical" college experience. Once you get past the first year and hopefully make some friends, you will definitely enjoy the relaxed vibe here at davis. But if you don't find a group of friends, good luck.
