Temple doesn't have the greatest reputation in the Philly area but the quality of schooling is much higher than you might expect. The campus is expanding and always seems to be improving. Fox Business school is nationally ranked as is the law school. Tyler school of art (including the architecture dept.) is gaining national recognition and is moving from a suburban satellite campus to a state of the art facility on the main campus. The students are friendly and the faculty is, for the most part, helpful. Temple sports leave something to be desired by the football team has made great improvement and was actually .500 in conference this year. The only negative is the lack of things to do on campus at night but there are plenty of open houses and parties always going on and center city is only a short train or subway ride away. Safety in North Philly is a concern but the Temple Police (the third largest police force in the state) does the best that anyone could ask from them. As a student you have to think about your own safety and not tempt fate. Dorm life varies from person to person. 1300, 1940, and White hall have all been built in the last decade and are all suite style. The Edge apartment complex is supposed to be upperclassmen only but was home to some freshman this year because of a very large incoming class. Johnson, Hardwick and Peabody are all traditional style dorms. Peabody is by far the oldest and most in need of renovation but is also the most loved by its residents. Housing for upperclassmen is not guaranteed and is first come, first serve. Many move into houses or apartments in University Village, The Edge, The Kardon Atlantic Terminal, ect. As far as food is concerned, there are two options of eating at the traditional dining hall (all you can eat) or at the Student Center (Affectionately called the SAC). The SAC is home to a la carte options including sushi, smoothies, pasta, Philly favorites, samwiches, taco bell, Burger King, Chinese (though this inst the greatest and is referred to as SACanese). There are also plenty of places on or near campus that are cheap and many take cash or Diamond Dollars (student debit accounts connected to your ID). Richie's next to Gladfelter and Anderson Hall is a personal favorite as is Temple Star on Diamond St. (they're open until 3 or 4 and deliver).
