Statistical Analyzer:

Francis Marion was an all-around great experience. I not only made friends with my peers, but I have lasting relationships with my professors as well. I have counted on many of them for references and have never been disappointed. Many people say that Florence is a boring city, but college is what you make of it. I came from Myrtle Beach (a huge tourist town) and was never bored in Florence. You make friends, go to parties, bars, etc. and meet new people. As for on campus participation, it was average. There are fairs, festivals, art shows, plays, and cookouts monthly. If anyone is bored at FMU, it's his/her own fault. I went to school only knowing one other person, but I became involved in charity work, clubs and a sorority and I couldn't imagine changing any of it.

One of the best things about FMU is the size, you can't walk to class and not see a friendly face. I am in graduate school now at a large university and the only reason anyone knows my name is because I'm a grad student, if I was an undergrad, my classes would be 200+ students, even at the upper levels. At FMU, you're not just a number.
As for the biology department, I feel VERY lucky to have worked with such great professors. Once I got to grad school, my major professor was impressed at how many courses I had taken and how well rounded my knowledge of biology is. There are research opportunities and seminars that can really boost your knowledge and curiosity about the world we live in. FMU is a challenge and I am very grateful because the real world isn't slack, and your education shouldn't be either.
The take home message from this (hopefully helpful) rant is that college is what you make of it and Francis Marion has a lot to offer those sincerely looking to broaden their horizons.
