Statistical Analyzer:

Classes are terribly overcrowded and, at least in the Government department, there are few class sections offered even for required major classes. This is because the school president, Alexander Gonzalez slashed funding from Academic Affairs. Gonzalez touts his "Destination 2010" program of making the school a "destination campus for the West"…hahaha!! He is trying to boost enrollment by raising and spending millions of dollars on peripheral school projects such as a new Recreation and Wellness Center which will probably be pretty cool, but he doesn't put money into instruction. Furthermore, he isn't building any more classrooms, but wants enrollment to skyrocket.

Overcrowding will only get worse becuase there isn't enough space to put more students and the school doesn't want to have to hire (and pay) more professors. Don't believe the 21 to 1 student-teacher ration, that is a myth.

The faculty are great and there are really smart students here, but it is a working class, commuter school. The vast majority of students work at least part-time and don't have the time or energy to devote a good amount of time to school work like students at the UCs. Thus, G.P.A.s are low, student apathy (about everything) is high (most students don't feel the need to protest their student fees being raised even though it has happened 5 times in 6 years) and people generally don't care about their world. There is no community on campus, people just want to get in and get out. It's unfortunate, but we are victims of the higher education hiearchy in California, the CSU system, budget cuts and a school president that wants to privatize everything and is turning the school into a corporation.
