It is EXTREMELY conservative. Conservative Catholicism is extensively pushed on you (for example, there is a talk on chastity on the Freshman Retreat). (For the men out there, the popular men's Latin service fraternity, Esto Vir is actually an underground for Opus Dei.) Politics is big on campus to the extent that it is likely that walking to the bathroom will cause you to get into a 5 minute political debate. The admissions people lie about student life (i.e. there are social fraternities/sororities). The administration is full of hypocrites (i.e. the Catholic Church has a consistent pro-life mentality, but the school is fine with the death penalty; the Church is pro-labor unions, but the school does not allow its employees to unionize nor even take brakes; Father O' Connell, the president as of this writing, has a $100,000 car with chauffeur and an English butler, even though his order had him take a vow of poverty). |
