Students are generally smart, but not nerdy. There is a good amount of spoiled kids, but overall the students are nice people and a good mix. Many students have significant scholarships (Myself and many of my friends each got $16,000 per year). The campus is pretty and a great location (uptown near St. Charles street mansions, right on the streetcar line, across from the park, walking distance to many bars and restaurants). There has been some crime, but that can be expected in any city and it is nothing horrifying (occasional muggings, no one hurt). That can be avoided by being smart about where you go and when.

New Orleans can not be beat as a place to go to college. Bars are open all night, the drinking age is often ignored, nightlife is very inexpensive compared with other cities. Mardi gras is great and Tulane gets time off for the holiday. Some things about the city can be frustrating, it is not the most productive or forward city. I will always love New Orleans, but would not want to raise a family there… but it is the best place to be when you are in college. Students from other colleges who visit friends at Tulane are always jealous of our lifestyle. The weather is great for those of us who grew up in the North (a big percent of Tulane's students)… it can be too humid at times in the summer and early fall, but its worth it when you are laying at the pool in the winter and its snowing at home.

Tulane has changed a little since Katrina. However, it has recovered wonderfully and is prepared for any future hurricanes. Students never feel unsafe because of weather… Tulane makes us evacuate at the earliest sign of a storm just to be safe.

I'm very glad I went to Tulane, I had great times there, great friends, and it really helped me grow up. I reccommend it 100%.
