I suspect that some of the "Negative" reviews about BC on this site is sourced from the 3% of BC Students who are disenchanted, introverted and bitter over failed expectations. The rest I highly suspect comes from non-BC Students who pride themselves in Hating BC. Sounds strange, I know. With so many good quality Schools in the Boston area, Students naturally develop an affinity for their own Institution and unfairly criticize others based on Athletic Competition (such as the Bean Pot), annual College Rankings and other very superficial reasons. For a small School, BC generates a fair amount of attention from the local and national media due to its success in Athletics, Academics and Alumni. With the enormous popularity of BC, the Admissions Office naturally has to reject a large number of prospective Students. Also, the Campus is very isolated from other Colleges where they blend in more with the Urban landscape. The locals around Chestnut Hill, in particular Newton and Brighton, have also waged legal battles with BC over expansions efforts, tail-gate parties and noise levels from Upper Campus (where Freshmen Dorms are located). This creates envy and resentment from other Colleges in the Boston area. When BC fields a very successful Team in any given Sport, other Students in the area actually root against us. When the grand blue-print was recently unveiled for BC to expand and rebuild the Campus, some Politicians and local Residents openly opposed it. So when you read a "Negative" review here, you have to take it with a grain of salt. |
