Graduate school prepared me for a career in Geography. Computer programming was an essential skill to learn for GIS. While GIS appears extremely important to a career, you are better off getting a broad geography background then working 1-2 years at the analyst/tech level and moving on to graduate school after that. At graduate school I got into the higher levels of information science and learned to deal with project management. I published, presented, and established my skills in a way that moved me directly into a job with decent pay and a high satisfaction level. I could easily go after a PhD at this point, but it is not necessary for the field. |
