I'm in the graduate program for Public Health at Tulane. I don't recommend coming here for graduate school unless you are independently wealthy. Much of the living cost is "up front" before you even get your financial aid. The program is over-priced with about no scholarships to speak of and absolutely no grant money. I have talked with grad students in other departments and they are also disappointed. We keep wondering where all our money is being spent (maybe for hype around the school or undergraduate scholarships?). The buildings are old and outdated, services are lacking, the shuttles between campuses only run every 30 minutes, and the downtown campus is in a crime-ridden area. In fact, New Orleans since Katrina has a murder rate 16 times the national average. I do not recommend coming here and should have made a better decision. The sad part is that the faculty in Public Health are very good and the education I have received thus far has been (for the most part) very good. It's sad that all the other factors have made this school so lacking. |
