As a Broadcast Journalism major and pre law student, I can say that attending the University of Alabama is the smartest decision I have ever made. The Broadcast program is in the top 5 nationally and the Law School (which includes pre-law) is ranked in the top 30 nationally. One of the biggest selling points about academics at Alabama is that rather than waiting two years and then applying to a college within the university for your major, you begin you major your freshman year. I cannot think of any other big name school that allows you to do this. It is great for Broadcast students because this means that you can using all the high end film equipment and editing software your first year and then go out and apply for an internship at CNN in Atlanta (2 1/2-3 hours away). Also, UA is one of only two schools in the country to have their own commercially owned news station. This means that they are a legitimate station in the market that competes with all the other stations. This station serves a large portion of the state of Alabama and is run by professionals and students alike. It is a tremendous learning experience for students. The campus is quite possibly the nicest in the country and the people are some of the nicest you will ever meet. I encourage you to look into the University of Alabama and strongly consider it. However, they are in the middle of a huge "boom" period (UGA went through one not long ago). The student population is being built up to a total of around 28,500-29,000 undergrads and then once that goal is reached, the university is capping admissions and will raise their admissions standards by a great amount. So right now it is relatively easy to get in but it will not be like that for long. All I can say is that Bama is simply a little piece of heaven on earth. Oh and btw, if you are liberal, don't worry. I too am a Democrat/Liberal and there is a very big number of leftists on campus and it is in no way a close minded conservative dominated place. Who would have thought you'd find a welcoming place for liberals in the deep south!? :P ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!
