Currently married with 2 kids…am working part time at a library and LOVE it. My work is appreciated & acknowledged by staff and patrons. I learn something new every day. 1. Wheaton diploma definitely opened doors for first job interviews, but didn't get me my first job. Persistent inquiries did. Also worked as a temp at that company prior to full time hire.2. College career center was useless. Lots of "internships" but no guidance or follow up as to which ones would be a good match for me. College professors offered no guidance or serious concern for my future plans. Have interacted with many recent college grads who admit to being LOST after college. Kids - you need to be open to grab any opportunities (yes, the salary may not be great to start), learn to speak up for yourself, ask questions, be friendly. At work, be on time, be organized, be neat, speak clearly, be someone that can be counted on! Treat others as you would like to be treated. |
