I am currently a sophomore at Baruch, and have bad mostly a mixed experience thus far. The first thing I noticed when I came to this was that most of the students are somewhat pretentious, and do not have a grasp of the whole point of getting a college education: to become a well rounded person. I have talked to many students and it seems like they only care about their business classes and nothing else. I also observed that a lot of students complain about the workload in non business classes, which I never had a problem with so it definitely came to me as a surprise. As a result lot of professors become way to lenient which is not advantageous to the students that enjoy being challenged intellectually.

As i mentioned before, most of the professors and the educational quality (in business and non business classes) is great. They are extremely supportive and enthusiastic. It is really tough for some of the liberal arts professors because they are aware that Baruch is a business school, and a lot of students don't really take their class seriously. However they manage to organize the material in a way that does not take away from the educational quality. I have never had a professor who hasn't bothered to respond to my e-mails or answer questions. Social life is tolerable, but I have to admit that I am not exactly the most outgoing person.

If you are undecided about your major, you will probably be lost in this school. It wasn't until I started attending the school that I found out that you cannot take any 300 level accounting classes until junior year. As a result, you are not left with much leeway because if you decide Accounting is not your cup of tea or if you mess up in one accounting class, you will likely take more than four years to graduate. I like the fact that the school requires all business majors to take at least calculus, because i know other schools don't even though it seems to be a necessity for a lot of major subjects. I also like the fact that the school requires you to complete a tier 3 minor, which requires you to take 2 300 level classes and a capstone course within a department outside of the business school. This basically ensures that Baruch students graduate well rounded in other areas except business. This is important because the real world often requires knowledge outside of business.
