I hand picked most of my professors for my classes based on ratings from RateMyProfessor. I would highly suggest that you do this also, especially for subjects like math and language. The ones I didn't pick were awful. They were Ph.D's but too new to feel comfortable and somewhat arrogant. Some of the older professors made you feel like they were sick of dealing with the sheer volume of students at UMASS.Thats why you should pick your professors. So, my professors were very knowledge and great presenters of their subject. What I didn't like. Well,I'm a non-traditional student(really non-traditional,44 yrs old)and most of the professors weren't initially happy to have me in there class. I was really upset and surprised about this especially since I was in the Sociology Dept. Just goes to prove that biases and stereotypes exist everywhere and in every dimension. Good thing I have a supportive family. If you are an older student then you might want to think twice about going. The upside is that the conventional college education vs. online is much kinder to the amount of time it takes to study. In other words it easier than online learning.Goodluck with your education. UMASS is a decent place to get one though their Sociology Dept. needs a lot of work. |
