There is alot of diversity and alot of things going on simutaneously. However, the safety here is the pits. We had one shooting threat which brought in SWAT members (that made it to state wide television and the newspapers.) Multiple bomb threats (at least 4 and once we had 2 in the SAME DAY), a gas leak in one of the science buildings that could have made the place go up in flames, at least 3 CAMPUS WIDE black outs where the entire campus's electric systems went down, and a host of other more minor annoyances that plague this school. The school is heavily commuter because of it's price tag and for the people who live here there are lots of opportunities to do stuff and the college always has activities going on…but it's VERY difficult for commuters to get involved on campus. With gas prices being what they are no commuter student can afford to go back and forth, back and forth to the campus to take part in the majority of the extra activities most of which are going on late at night. Along this same thread is the problem of what to do once you're actually finished with the activity, it's well passed midnight and you have to drive home alone. You'd think that a school that's so commuter heavy would make clubs and events more accessible, like in the late afternoon so we can get involved (i am/was a commuter student). Greek life runs the school and there's not much school spirit, it's mostly Greek Spirit. The people here are your typical New Jersey crowds (i'm an unusual native New Jersey Resident) they are party oriented, rudderless, crass and rude. For those smart students who want an intellectually stimulating and welcoming social(and academic) life, prepare to be disappointed. The majority of people you'll run into here at MSU are still learning how to walk upright and not behave like animals. It's hard to find people focused on academics because they're just nowhere to be found, which in my humble opinion defeats the purpose of college in the first place. I hope to be transferring to a more academically minded institution. |
