This person knew that person in high school, and naturally they went to college together. In that respect, it's very close-minded. Unless you are familiar with how to break into 'small town' social dynamics, it's hard to break into the established cliques. Augie is also very conservative/right wing. Don't mention that you don't agree with Republican theories unless you are ready to back it up and defend yourself like mad. Once you can defend yourself from the conservatives/know how to counter those crazy liberals, you'll really know what you stand for. So it's not such a bad thing. Be prepared to face endless questioning (by yourself, and by your peers) if you are non-religious. Don't go to Augie if you are interested in a biological field that isn't medicine or cell/molecular biology. Most of the bio classes are geared towards that.—Augie is not all that bad once you break into the social cliques/learn to forge your own way. Yeah, it can get kind of annoying how people seem unreceptive to anything new. Just get involved in activities that interest you. It helps. :) Other students often complain that there is 'nothing to do' in Sioux Falls. The falls are beautiful, the bike trails go practically everywhere, downtown is surprisingly vibrant, and there are tons of different restaurants. I think that there are lots of things to do, just not many places to go out and drink. If that's your thing, then you might want to look into house parties/going to another college. |
