The town is incredible and the student body, while ethnically homogenous, fosters individualism in certain respects. Everyone has their own style and there's not really a lot of pressure to conform unless you get mixed in with the super-Christians. Ironically enough, those are the most judgmental and condescending people I've ever met, and I'm Christian. The mainstream parties do always get broken up, but St. Aug has a very different sort of nightlife. There are hipster house shows and crazy dance parties and lots of opportunities for bike ride adventures. You definitely have to be creative and think out of the beer pong box, but that can make for the most fun experiences. Education-wise—I'm in the Comm department, and it seems all the great professors leave. Pickett is extraordinarily unhelpful, probably one of the worst professors at the school so he'll probably be there for a while unfortunately. I approached him many times asking for help after class because he has a tendancy to go off on rants that seem to be more for his own benefit rather than telling his students what they need to know, but he just gets annoyed and refuses to answer questions, or if he does he does so in a very condescening manner.Sarkio is great though…I'm probably going to transfer to a big university because I've had such awful social experiences here and the professors are sub-par, but I don't regret coming here. My experiences were not the typical college experiences, but that can be a good thing. |
