When I was accepted into RIT I was very excited. The first time I visited the campus I thought it was like a prison. There are so many bricks and all the buildings are pretty much the same. Everything is so close together and I feel like I'm not at a college but at a prison.

I filled out my housing information and was looking forward to living in the dorm. I was very disapointed when I was not put into a door but at the RIT INN, which is not on campus and I had to fight to get onto the small shuttle bus to get to campus. The shuttle bus only came every 40 min and it would take 1 hour breaks. It was so rediculous. Not only was i placed in the hotel but my roomate was an art student and I was a science student. She never had anything to do and I was always trying to study but couldnt because she was so distracting.

The people that say the classes are to big and its hard to get personal attention must be the people who never went to class. The first year science classes are classes that include around 150 to 200 kids. If you go to class everyday you will realize that out of that 150-200 students about 80 of them come to class. The professors are always willing to answer questions during class. Also, many of them will alow you to schedule apointments to meet with them if you can't make it to their office hours. The labs only include about 20-30 students and you work in a group of 4 or 2. The upper math classes also include a lab which gives the students an oppertunity to get the help they need. There are always tutors avaliable from 8am to sometimes 9 or 10 pm in almost any course willing to help you.

Many of science classes professors will use mycourses which is really sweet. Mycourses basical will show you all of your assignments and grades. Some professors post online quizes and also class notes. It is a very helpful site and its great for people who like to monitor how well they are doing in a course.

I was a transfer student coming into RIT. Some suggestions for tranfer students or anyone who is not a freshman would be to get the all debit meal plan. Freshmen have to have the gracies food plan which would suck because thats the only place you can eat. IF you get the all debit meal plan you can eat at quiznos on campus, plus there are tons of places to eat around campus that have real food and not the crap they serve at gracies… plus you can buy anything from the cornor store or Sals which are in the tunnels in the dorms.

All in all, RIT is not a bad school. Its just very stressful and hard to get back on track if you get pushed off. So dont skip class and get behind. Your professors dont care if you pass or fail so you are responsible for yourself.
