I already earned a bachelors degree in 1987. Upon returning to school at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. I found that posessing a bachelors degree meant the same as being an freshman who had never taken higher education courses before. I HAD to enroll in remidial courses such as English 1, History 1, math, speech, and even an art class. All of these are basic courses that the school said are required by the State of Texas. there was no consideration given to the fact that here is a student who already posessed a bachelors degree, and was told by the Dept chair that this is a unique situation and they will need to make some changes or adjustments, but not in time for my course of study. This school needs to take into consideration the fact that there are people who already posess a degree who should not be required to take these courses. After all, how does Art Appreciation translate into learning how to take x-rays? |
