I think having sororities dominate the school is an enormous mistake; it basically creates an artificial in-group at a university too large to adopt high school dynamics on its own. I majored in Liberal Arts, and the Northwestern Job center cuts you off after a year—so not so helpful post-graduation, either. Sure, some people look at 'Northwestern' and are impressed, so that counts for something… But overall I wish I'd gone to another school where1) all the into-level classes were not weed-out classes. I wanted to EXPLORE possible interests before choosing a major, but I couldn't take risks at Northwestern given the difficulty of freshman-level classes and the need to keep my grades up for my back-up plan (law school)2) NO SORORITIES OR FRATERNITIES. I can't emphasize this enough. Unless you're on a sports team, Greek, a theater/radio television film major, or a music major, you're pretty much screwed. This university has nothing to offer you by way of social life.I would have gone somewhere else. A thousand times over. |
