Uuuuwwwwf!

The University of West Florida is nothing like the rest of the 11 public universities in Florida. Not to say this is a bad thing, but the university itself is very unique compared to the rest.

UWF is a small school. Only 10,000 students, about 20-30% is on campus at once. The school being small goes both ways. Its great since you get to know everyone and you grow closer to people, but it sucks since you see the same exact people every day.

Being a small school puts it into NCAA Division II and only has few sports that are NCAA. No football, basketball or baseball. All this really means is that there isn't much athletic spirit here. Nobody even cares about the soccer games sadly.

The resources here are very limited. There isn't much of a student union here for the Commons area, an area that everything is that, tries to cram everything all into one place. It puts the student union, market place, school store, post office and what not all into one.

While that is convenient, that's pretty much the only main area your offered in the school. There is all the academic resources you need like the Writing Lab, Math Lab, Library, but not really any stores or anything special.

Food sucks, except Quiznos, Starbucks and Terra Juice. There are places to eat in Pensacola, but no ride means your stuck here eating the meal plan they force you to have.

The Greek system here is probably better than a lot of the bigger schools since there isn't any hazing here. The school is so small to where if it happened, greek affairs would know. In most frats or sororities, the numbers are limited which means you really do get close to the people in your greek life.

There are only 10 greek organizations here and there is only 1 house which is not located on campus. Yes, there is no greek road at all but we have greek dorms on campus where the organizations can live together.

Teachers here are good. No complains really. You come here, you learn, but that's about it honestly.

UWF was meant for the locals, nothing more. From my experience, if I never went greek, this place would have been the most boring place on earth. Pensacola sucks, and being in a place where you see the same people everyday sucks. I say this because if you don't get along with anyone in the beginning or plan on to, nothing changes and nothing gets better.

Go greek or don't go at all. Seriously, if you want an awesome college experience without being dependent on the greek system, check out UCF or FSU. Otherwise, good luck.
