You either love nyu or hate it—there is pretty much no middle ground. As a sophmore i can only say one thing: stay the hell away from this school. nyu lures in its students with propaganda about the wonders of the city, the fabulous nyu community, and perhaps most deceptive of all the amazing academics. I actually don't even know where to start.

Socially, the nyu community is obviously non existent and i mean that. I mean there is absolutely no no no unity here. If you're independent and willing to forsake your undergrad experience for the city then by all means, come here. Anyone and everyone else should stay faaarrr far away from NYU at all costs. I would suggest this school to the artsy type and the super super rich girl type. Both pretty much reign supreme in the social scene, and it's obnoxious. I cant even begin to articulate how shitty the social life has been here or how stuck up the students are.

The school wouldn't be soo bad if the academics weren't such a fucking joke. I'd be willing to stay here and put up with the shitty social scene, but the academics are by far the least intellectually stimulating thing I have ever endured. I'm in CAS and I want to leave as soon as possible. There are way too many requirements and I'm not even able to take things that I like.

Basically, nyu is a shithole that should be avoided at all costs for anyone with half a brain who wants a decent social life and wants to be surrounded by normal, sociable, accepting, friendly people. Sadly, I kind of get why nyu has the #2 highest suicide rate in the country now…this place is just too damn depressing
