I decided to go to Fordham because I believed it would be a more relaxed environment than the one at NYU or Columbia. I am a very good student (graduated a hard high school with a cumulative 4.3 GPA). My first complaint is the core curriculum. Now, most schools have a core, but Fordham's consists of 20 required courses. While this is spread out over your 4 years, it adds up to 2 full years of courses you cannot choose. I understand the mentality that students should be well rounded, but if I am going to be an English major, I do not care for computer science or other extraneous courses, especially when I'm paying close to $50,000 dollars a year to go here (this school will cost you an arm and a leg) My next complaint is about the people here. Now, I have always been a popular kid who tries to be friends with everyone, and there are a good amount of truly good people, but the student body lacks a lot. You will notice it as the stuck-up girls look away when they're walking, assuming you're ogling them. You'll notice it when you go out and see the reckless drinking and drug use (the reason there is so much is because most of the kids here come from wealthy Catholic families, and have money to burn). Kids go to the hospital all the time, and its usually not a regular night unless you see FUEMS (the university medical service) taking someone away. The girls here are unapproachable, many have an attitude they don't deserve. The guys here are better, but still, your res hall will perpetually smell like pot. One word of advice: if you are a normal person, stay the hell away from Queens Court (the building that you have to apply to, and the people don't drink, smoke, or have fun). I have never seen such a group of stuck-up, sheltered assholes in my entire life. They are fucking weirdoes. The dorms are not that great. You know what, they're gross. The carpets are vomit stained, smell like urine, and the bathrooms…god, I would never use them if I didn't have to. My RA's are really chill, but the RDs in charge of the buildings can be total douches. You will be extraordinarily punished for getting caught drinking. On to the subject of social life. 'Fordham is my school, New York is my campus". That is one of Fordhams mottos. Yes, the Lincoln Center campus is in the City, but Rose Hill, where I am, is in the Bronx. Someone you know will get hurt or mugged eventually. I have a friend that's a girl and she was almost kidnapped and raped (a guy tried to force her into a car), luckily, she had ROTC friends with her. "social" life consists of the repetitive routine of going to one or more of the 4 bars near campus every. single.time.you.want.to.go.out. Yes you are near the city, but you will be going to it way less than you think. The classes are remedial. Most of the people are alcoholics, potheads, bitches, or assholes. You will end up doing the same thing every weekend. And if you are like me, you will end up transferring |
