I visit Berkeley every year or so and, like anywhere else, there are changes, good and not so good. The bottom line is that this is the best public institution of higher learning in America, period. If you are intellectually curious, you will love it. I was a kid out of Colorado (where I still reside) whose life was enriched by four great years at a time of social unrest in America. What a privilege to be a Berkeley alum.—an education equal to or better than Princeton, Harvard, etc. without the huge debt. Maybe some day we will value public education again—America's only truly unique gift to the world. From J. Robert Oppenheimer to all the Nobel Prize winners to Gregory Peck and thousands of others, to the students who spoke up for a better world, thank you and let's hope new generations carry on the spirit. |
