The teachers and opportunities were amazing; the students were more like high school—inappropriate outbursts, refusing to work with people that weren't in their social group. It appeared to me they were more interested in smoking pot, drinking and having parties than excelling at their major subject. On top of that, the town is extremely depressing. The only clothing store available is the JCPenney catalog store. The only bookstore is Hastings and the small campus bookstore which focuses on textbooks. I had to drive to College Station or The Woodlands (1 hour) for items that you can commonly get just a mile from your home. I was expecting a more mature social attitude, but instead got something more like jr. high or high school from my peers. Partying is way more important here than it should be. I had to leave as my spirit was becoming more and more broken. I wish my dept. could have moved to a more sophisticated environment; they were wonderful. |
