I am currently a freshman girl and I could not be happier with my choice to go to Colby College. The students are friendly, the faculty is accessible and genuinely wants to help you, and even though it's located in Waterville, Maine, there always is something to do. There can be some awkward moments around campus since it's so small, but I find that it's the perfect size for me. It's small enough so I know generally a fair amount of people on campus but big enough that I'm meeting new people on a weekly basis.

There is a lot of drinking on campus, but if you're chem free, the student programming board always tries to have fun activities on the weekends. Colby students work hard but they also play hard. However, unlike state universities, you don't really find the majority of Colby students drinking on the weekdays. The party scene gets a little old since it's a bunch of people squeezing in a small dorm room, but there are a few parties off campus and in the apartments which are super fun.

Colby's a competitive school academic wise but it still maintains a community feel. Study groups are really popular among students, which shows that students are willing to help each other succeed. Classes are a hit or miss depending on the professor. Some classes are really intellectually stimulating and others are easy with bad professors but I suspect that this may be the same at all colleges.

Athletics are really popular at Colby. Athletic teams tend to stick together in terms of social life but it's not necessary to be in one. I'm not on a team and I found that it was still easy to make friends. Colby's a really friendly campus and it's what you make of it.

A con about Colby is the lack of diversity. I know this is something the admissions office has been trying hard to fix but right now, the campus is really homogeneous. White, upper middle class, and from New England. A lot of the students of color stick together but that does not mean the majority of students are not accepting. Again, it's what you make of it.

If you do decide to enroll at Colby, bring a car! It's really useful to have to get into town and go home. Airfares are usually cheap but a cab to the airport is astronomical! Around $150. Get a car, trust me.

Overall, my experience at Colby has been a fantastic one. I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a small liberal arts college.
