If you're looking for a strong communications school and are really committed to studying only communications, Emerson is for you. The school environment fosters and encourages creativity and self-expression. The classes are mildly challenging, if you've taken AP classes in high school, they aren't any more difficult than those. The faculty is engaging and and passionate about the subjects they teach and always let you know when you can meet with them if you have any issues with the class. Students here are friendly, open and unique individuals, but can also come off as pretentious. We're proud of our work and our creativity. Emerson offers a lot of extracurricular activities - ex: films (both to direct/produce/star in), theater, sports, clubs - and there is something for everyone. Sports are becoming more popular within the school and the individual teams are quite strong considering it's an art school. The people who make up the sports teams are some of the most interesting and kind people I've ever played with, and they really make sure you feel welcome and comfortable with the team. Politically, Emerson is very liberal, and therefore strongly supports the gay and lesbian community. Being politically correct isn't encouraged here, it's required, which can be frustrating at times. If you're not sure if you want to be in communications, the price tag that comes with the school probably isn't worth it. But if you know that your career lies in communications, the knowledge you will receive here will ensure that you find a job after your four years. The faculty is also always willing to help get you started in the career path you want to be in. Emerson is more of a trade school than a liberal arts school, but the general knowledge you receive in your first two years will help you become a more well-rounded individual within your major. |
